Hack

Technology · November 14, 2007

I’ve moved my blog around a couple of times…I’ve previously posted about doing so. Today when I got in the office, RJ informed me that my old blog may have been hacked, which I thought was odd since I deleted the account.

When I went to check it out the new blog had my name on it, several of my old posts and 3 new posts that were obviously spam. I tried to login to change it with no luck, which made sense…why would I be able to log into an account that had been deleted?

Here’s what was weird. The blog was at the same address, with the old posts (minus all photos and line breaks) and same categories. It’s like someone copied all the info up to X date and put some of their own spam on it after I had decided to delete the account. I wonder if there is some scraper that checks for recently deleted blogs.

So, anyhow. I contacted blogspot about the spam ridden account. I guess it’s pretty common because they had a category in the “file a complaint” dropdown titled theft: impersonation. I told them the issue and within 3 hours, the site was removed. Check your old blog addresses, you never know who’s impersonating you.
