Slim-Fast vs. Atkins (strawberry shake edition)

Health/Diet · February 2, 2009

I’ve been drinking these meal replacement shakes. They are compact and easy to take to school with me. I’m going to be testing some of them out and so, here comes my review of them.

Name: Atkins Strawberry Shake Slim-Fast Strawberries & Cream
Price: Don’t remember, but comes in a 4-pack Not sure, but comes in a 6-pack
Weight: 325 ML 325 ML
Calories: 150 180
Carbs: 1g 23g
Sugar: 1g 17g

Looking at the nutritional information, Atkins has Slim-Fast beat. However, going on taste it’s Slim-Fast all the way. The Atkins shakes have to be pretty cold when you drink them. If not, they sort of taste powdery. The Slim-Fast shakes, in general, are milk based and are heavier, however, after drinking the Atkins shakes, my stomach always seems to make a rumble. It’s not upset, it’s like it’s just digesting differently *shrugs*.

If you were a strawberry milk fan like I was when I was a kid, you’ll appreciate Slim-Fast’s whole milk like consistency. The Atkins shake is not bad by any means. It just tastes more artificial and almost medicinal. It reminds me a whole lot of a much better tasting pepto bismol.

All that said, I’ll probably end up going with the Atkins shakes for their leg up on the nutrition.
